Having qualified as a Registered Nurse - Adult in 1979 in North Down and Ards School of Nursing, Carole subsequently completed Midwifery training at Jubilee Maternity Hospital Belfast.
After many years working in secondary care in a variety of disciplines and specialising in Diabetes, Carole joined Primary Care in 1990. Here she developed a real passion for respiratory patients and this has continued until today.
Qualifying as a Specialist Practitioner in General Practice Nursing in 1998 and completing the Nurse Independent Prescribing Course in 2004 enabled her to holistically manage patients providing the best optimal care she possibly could.
Accurate diagnosis of diseases such as Asthma and COPD with the aid of accurately performed spirometry has been at the forefront of her endeavours along with education of all HCP disciplines working in these areas.
Carole is currently a partner in Barrett & McGrath EMS Ltd with extensive experience in the delivery of education to all healthcare professional disciplines with particular emphasis on respiratory disease. She remains involved in service improvement delivery, teaching and mentoring services. Carole is a highly professional and well trained confident proactive practitioner on the live NMC register with 48 years’ experience in nursing, 25 years within the Primary Care setting. She has a proven track record of maintaining and achieving exceptional standards of care and facilitation of education.
