Spirometry 3 yearly Revalidation (Certified) - 16th September 2025. Antrim

Venue - Massereene Room, Clothworthy House, Randalstown Rd, Antrim BT41 4LH

This is course will be held face to face basis. The day will begin 9.15am and finish approximately 4.30pm. Tea/Coffee/Scone will be provided at break time plus there is an onsite cafe available for purchasing lunch.

About this course

This is a one-day facilitated, interactive session suitable for all registered healthcare professionals who have completed their accredited spirometry course 3 years plus via any provider and have not completed their three-yearly update. You are required to submit 2 readings and calibration reports correctly analysed and interpreted to obtain validation and certification.

There is the opportunity for those registered outside NI to attend via google classroom online link.

The training will be delivered by an accredited, experienced spirometry trainer

The day will cover:

1. Revision
   • On the care and Maintenance of the equipment
   • Gaining good reproducible readings EVERY TIME - using the four-point rule:
     • Demographics
     • Reproducibility
     • Technical Acceptability
     • Actual interpretation of the readings
2. Update on COVID-19 regulations - latest cross- infection regulations
3. How to achieve an accurate diagnosis
4. Looking beyond the FEV1 for additional clues:
   • Maximum Mid-Expiratory Flows (MMEFs)
   • Lower Limit of Normal (LLN)
   • Upper Limit of Normal (ULN)
   • Forced Expiratory Time (FET)
5. Accurately interpret complex spirometry readings in conjunction with complex patient presentations - group work
6. Long COVID-19 presentations amongst other respiratory complex cases

Students are encouraged to send though their own challenging readings and cases in advance of the training day to be critiqued and analysed on the day.
